A Child's Perspective Acknowledged
In December, while watching the news with his family on an attack on Ukraine, six year old Kip noted his concerns related to the state of the world. He said with clear insight that “someone should make Russia clean up after themselves, so Ukraine people can go back home”. With encouragement from his family, he wrote a letter to the government telling the Prime Minister his thoughts. His Nana, who works at Canada Post, gave the letter to Senator Pat Duncan in January. Pat was so touched by his words, she hand delivered the letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau when at the Senate in Ottawa.
The family was proud that this little boy had shared his perspective on the state of our world, and wished to ask for change. They didn’t expect a reply but felt pride in his desire to share his thoughts in this very poignant letter. On February 12, 2023 the family woke to a call from the Prime Minister’s office, requesting a meeting with Kip so he could share Canada’s plan. They asked him to bring his family. Shortly thereafter, Senator Pat Duncan came to their home to hand deliver the correspondences she sent in attachment with his letter. Kip met Prime Minister Trudeau and his lovely son Hadrien (8, almost 9) that afternoon. Kip was invited in with open arms and had a chance to ask the Prime Minister his important questions. These photos capture what transpired. This will forever be a special memory for Kip and his family who were touched by the human spirit and care given to the answers of a child’s questions. |
