Student-Led Conferences:

Overview:
The student, parent(s) and teacher will meet together to talk about the learning that has taken place during the term. The conference will take a total of 30 minutes; 15 minutes to review the student’s portfolio outside of the classroom, and 15 minutes inside the classroom with the teacher. Your son/daughter knows a great deal about his/her learning and has collected work samples to show you.
 

Format:
The number one purpose of the conference is to support the learning of your son or daughter.

Before the conference:
  1. Sign up for the Student-Led Conference at hvesschoolappointments.com.
  2. Discuss how learning is going with your son/daughter.
  3. Take notes on the supplied Parent Form that includes; areas of growth, areas you would like to see improvement in, and one specific goal.

During the conference:
  1. Before you enter the classroom, you will review your son/daughter’s portfolio in the hallway.
  2. You will meet with your son/daughter and his/her teacher to discuss the following:
  • Talk about strengths and areas of progress.
  • Look at and discuss work samples.
  • Talk about the areas of improvement.
  • Discuss ways to support your son or daughter with their learning.

Forms:

Letter to Parents: to be sent home to notify the parents and guardians of the time and objectives of the conference.
